Safepoint Launches Location Beacon to Solve GPS Blind Spots for Lone Workers

Safepoint, a leading provider of lone worker safety technology, has announced the launch of its new Location Beacon, designed to solve a long-standing challenge in the industry: identifying the exact location of an employee in indoor or signal-poor environments.

The new product is a compact, easy-to-deploy device that brings room-level accuracy to lone worker alerts, enabling faster, more precise responses in high-risk or complex sites. It works alongside Safepoint’s existing Lone Worker Device to provide an additional layer of location data where GPS may fail.

The Problem: Lone Workers in GPS Black Spots

For lone workers operating in areas like stairwells, basements, plant rooms, or multi-storey buildings, GPS often fails to provide reliable location data. This creates a dangerous gap when a worker triggers an alert — response teams may know where the building is, but not where in the building to respond.

“Places like care homes, hospitals, hotels or even offices with thick walls all suffer from this issue,” said Callum Coombes, CEO of Safepoint. “And if someone needs urgent help, knowing the general area isn’t good enough — you need to know exactly where they are.”

The Solution: Room-Level Precision

The Location Beacon is a small, discreet device that can be fixed to walls, machinery, doorframes, or vehicles. Each Beacon is named during setup (e.g. “Room 207, Floor 3”), and when a worker raises an alert nearby, the Safepoint system uses proximity to identify the closest Beacon — giving the monitoring team a precise location without relying on GPS.

Instead of a vague map pin, responders might now see:

  • “Freezer Room, Basement Level”

  • “Maintenance Office, Floor 2”

  • “Room 207, Floor 3”

This can significantly improve emergency response times, especially in larger or more complex environments.

Built for Simplicity and Durability

The Beacon was designed with field deployment in mind. It requires no cabling or external connectivity and can be installed and named in under a minute.

Key features:

  • No GPS or network infrastructure required

  • Battery lasts up to two years (CR2477, replaceable)

  • Waterproof and impact-resistant (IPX8 rated)

  • Fully integrated with Safepoint’s existing devices and dashboard

“We designed this to be straightforward — no complicated setup, no hidden maintenance. Just place it, name it, and it works,” said Coombes.

Designed for Real-World Use

The Location Beacon is being deployed in a range of sectors where GPS struggles to deliver, including:

  • Hospitals and care homes

  • Warehouses and cold storage units

  • Multi-floor office buildings

  • Hotels and serviced accommodation

  • Schools, universities, and housing developments

  • Construction and maintenance sites

Each Beacon can be customised to the specific room or zone it’s placed in, giving employers flexibility to build out detailed internal location mapping for their teams.

Seamless Integration with Safepoint’s Monitoring Platform

Alerts raised through the Lone Worker Device or Lone Worker App now include Beacon data by default when workers are near one. This means employers and monitoring centres will receive more specific, actionable location information — helping them make faster, more informed decisions in an emergency.

The system works without any extra software setup, and is compatible with Safepoint’s 24/7 professional monitoring (powered by ADT), as well as in-house monitoring teams.

The Safepoint Location Beacon is available now and starts at £16.99 per unit. It can be purchased directly through the Safepoint online store.

It is compatible with all existing Lone Worker Devices and can be integrated into customer setups immediately.

A Practical Solution to an Overlooked Problem

The launch of the Location Beacon marks a significant step forward for indoor lone worker safety — a challenge that has often been overlooked due to the technical limitations of GPS.

“It’s one of the most practically useful tools we’ve built,” said Coombes. “It solves a real problem that’s been quietly causing issues in workplaces for years — and now there’s a simple, cost-effective way to fix it.”
